I am pretty clueless when it comes to these forum set ups and such, but is there anyway to get BCJC to work on Tapatalk?
-
Yes and no, Tapatalk doesn't support the latest version of SMF .. yet.. and it's been out a couple months now.
I've also considered just making a mobile skin for bcjc instead of that too, but only 6% or so of users actually connect to bcjc using iphone/ipod/ipad/bb/android
-
So when Tapatalk supports it, it should work? That would be great, I find it much easier to use than trying to view over the internet on my phone.
-
Correct, Tapatalk is a weird product .. its major popular, but the developers don't seem to update it very often

I actually don't particularly like the tapatalk feature.. I'd rather just cruise through forums and such they way that I'm used to, the same as I do on my laptop. But I guess making BCJC compatible with tapatalk (or vice-versa) wouldn't hinder that, it would just make it easier for those who use tapatalk instead of going old school right?
Can you actually tell when I'm using my iPhone instead of my laptop even if I'm just browsing?? Is it just a safari vs explorer or firefox thing?

iPhones use a version of safari specific to iOS, so the server software is able to recognize that

When a browser sends a request to the server, part of the request header is "user-agent" tag, which identifies operating system, browser, and some other tidbits.
Examples:
Firefox 4.0.1 on Win7 -- Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0.1
IE 8 on Win 7 -- Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/4.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; Tablet PC 2.0; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 3.0.04506; eMusic DLM/4; OfficeLiveConnector.1.3; OfficeLiveConnector.1.4; OfficeLivePatch.0.0; OfficeLivePatch.1.3; SLCC1; .NET4.0C; .NET4.0E; InfoPath.3; Zune 4.7; MS-RTC LM 8; yie8)
Opera on WinXP -- Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 6.0; U; en) Presto/2.5.22 Version/10.50
Safari on OSX vs iPhone vs Ipad --
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.0.2) Gecko/20020924 AOL/7.0
Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11a Safari/525.20
Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; U; CPU OS 3_2_1 like Mac OS X; es-es) AppleWebKit/531.21.10 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/7B405
But we use Google Analytics to collect all this information, and format it into report formats.

^^^ crazy talk right there. Thanks for running this site man.

I'd use my phone more if there was a mobile optimized variant.

Maybe you should get an internet optimized phone ;)

My phone is optimized enough...any more optimized and it'll be a laptop..
-
figured i'd revive this one, see if it's possibly a viable option at this point. i know tapatalk now supports SMF 2.0.2.
bradh, i know you're a busy guy. whenever you have a second, maybe you could take a quick peek at this again?

I use my BB Torch to browse the site every so often. It's a tad small text in portrait mode but not too bad in landscape. Useable at least.
I'm sure those on a Samsung GSIII or iPhone5 or other larger-screen device probably don't have font size issues :).

You tech nerds make me laugh and jealous at the same time.

How does this stat compare today?
-
I checked the stats and apparently, only 6% of visits to the site are from mobile browsers. I have to say, I find this very hard to believe.
I have to think Chrome and Safari may no longer be distinguishable between their computer based and mobile versions.
In any case, Chrome and Safari account for 25% of traffic each. Apparently 16% come from Internet Explorer... I assume this is from people who access the site from work... or their parents are cousins or something.
Not sure what value that information is to you, but there it is.
-
Meh I just noticed that someone was viewing the topic, then noticed the stat and date, thought it was really low. Just like useless info, thats all.
-
I haven't turned my computer on in months, everything I visit this sites it's either my phone or my tablet.
Not that it matters.
-
Ya im in the same boat, I would have expected that number to be like 75 percent, even more. I own a computer, its on right in front of me as we speak, I can literally kick it from where I sit. I dont think its been logged to bcjc ever.
-
/\
Ditto. Aside from the 7 computers I stare at all day at work, I never use one. Everything personal is accomplished on my phone or pad; including the administration of this site.
That said, I have no issues. My phone and pad browse the web perfectly fine in full format. I find most mobile skinned sites annoying and I skip straight for the "show full site" button. Maybe I just haven't found a good one. If anyone wants to show me what a good mobile forum looks like, so I have an idea. Post the link below.

Those numbers seem stunningly low. I use my phone for BCJC far more than my laptop, but it's usually through my WiFi...maybe that's why it thinks it's my PC? I dunno...
But my main question is, what is tapatalk? How is it better than just simple straight access to this site?

I usually read on my phone, and I use my tablet for browsing occasionally but for the most part i'm using a real life computer for my forum browsing since a keyboard is so much easier to lay down my rants. Stupid phone keyboard ends up pissing me off more than the person i'm ranting at, and that's just counter productive.

See? Your smartphone is so smart that it frequently outsmarts you. You need to trust that it knows what's best for you.
