Split up Buy and Sell ??
« on: August 04, 2010, 09:57:37 PM »
I was just looking back for a thread and realized theres about 10 pages of buy/sell posts in the last week and a half.

How about splitting up the Buy/Sell into:
XJ/MJ,
CJ/older
YJ/TJ
ZJ/WJ
JK
other

?

that still wouldnt be enough.  theres just SO MANY threads being posted now

i guess model specific might not be the right aproach since things like axles can cross over.

I was thinking about creating a custom forum, so instead of just displaying subject | replies | last post, but something like:

Selling/Wanted (ie; what kind of thread is it) | Subject | Location | Replies | Last Post

I know it's probably asking a lot of certain users to fill out two more boxes, but why not make everything a little bit easier?

Thoughts?

Yeah, an idea is something like the jeep forum, where you have full vehicles, wanted, parts, which could be divided into: drivetrain, suspension, tires/wheels, body/interior, electrical & accessories, other, and then miscellaneous/other. Guess I haven't noticed how busy its getting until tonight lol.

LMFAO
Good luck.  You can't get most people to specify whether they're buying or selling.  Unless the fields are mandatory, I predict fail.

I agree.... I would make them HAVE to post that stuff like on craigslist...
RIP Jeep 1940-2006. You will be missed greatly.

Yeah, I agree on the good luck part. Spoon feeding would be required.

I think anything would be better than what we have now. Maybe we can break them up into the respective areas or something?

Or for sale section, and a wanted section?

I don't even look anymore, shit gets buried in 2 days.

Maybe what I can do, is have sub forums for buying, and for selling. When you goto the main Buy/Sell forum, it shows all threads. Go into respective sub forum, it only shows the threads for either buy, or for sell ?

Throw out some ideas guys, or what other sites might be doing. Just keep in mind, the more you break it down, the more complicated.

Is there a way for sellers to remove threads after the item is sold? That may help clean it up a little

It could also be set up so after a certain period of time of inactivity, say a month, the thread automatically gets deleted. That way people will have to keep an update on it, and will come off if they sold it and forgot to take the thread off. Also there would be no way that people wouldn't post in the buying or selling section, because that would be their only option.

Having a wanted section might be worthwhile too
TJ - 4.0, 5 Speed, HP30, 8.8 w/Discs and LSD, 4.10's, 33x10.5 KM2, XRC rock sliders, CB, 2.5" junkyard lift, 1" MML/BL, AA SYE/CV shaft, some other crap.

He said my story was cool...and then he called me bro!!!

Make it simple;

Jeep Wanted
Jeep For Sale
Other

only allow posts in the for sale/wanted forum to be made by the person who originally made the post, if you want to reply to an ad do it via email or pm. This will clear up most of the bs and clutter.

Set the forum to delete after 30days, and while your at it, make it so buy and sell posts are editable no matter how long they've been there, it's kind of a pain not being to edit a post after 14 days or whatever it is now
