dRnKTJ's one ton coilover tj build
« on: September 27, 2009, 04:04:24 PM »
So it started as a d44/8.8 build, and became a 14 bolt and narrowed d60 build.

Front suspention is gonna be 12" remote res coilovers and 3 link

Rear suspention is going to be a triangulated 4 link with 14" remote res coilovers

so i started by dropping the rear axle. disconnected everytheng but the e-brake cables which i hit with the grinder, YEE HAW!

started by grinding the stock mounts off the frame and tacking the new brackets in place

Nice! That's gonna be a burly bitch when you're done. Looking forward to the build up.

so a friend told me that he has seen someone torch their gas tank to reform it for a streched wheelbase to fit the pumpkin, so i'm gonna give it a shot. few extra inches in the rear couldn't be bad.  so down with the gas tank also. gotta remount the fuel lines anyway so....................

And thanks neo! Still some frame clean-up to do. The spring buckets are still attatched at the inside of the frame till i can dig up a recriprocating saw. Grinding the last few chunks of the stock brackets right to the frame.

LOL, Im gonna empty it. Gonna pull it out of the skid plate, wash it out, pull the hoses off it , and let it evaporate it for a week or so. Then im going to notch the gas skid plate inwards and round out the corners to make a template of the 14 bolt diff in the front of the skid.  Then i will slowly apply heat to where i want to bend the gas tank inwards. when its just flexy enough i will push the tank back into the skidplate to form it around the notch and see where i go from there.

i have enough nice dents into the gas tank itself that i know it flexs even under sharp pressure when cold without breaking it so i thought it was a good idea.

Anyways if i fuck it up then i'll get a gen-right tank thats aready noched for a wheelbase stretch or a fuel cell for the rear.

not good enough...  There will still be vapours. Fill it with water.  The gas has been soaking into that plastic for 10 years.  Your just asking for trouble!

Plus the water will prevent you from burning threw

Got em on speed dial. Thanks jboy, great idea. I am gonna wash it out really well and sit it like i had posted,  still doing more research on how to bend a used gas tank, as well.

I cant personally find anyone yet that has attempted this, so info is kinda scarce but i'll post pics once i do it.
