The following is an explanation of how the British Columbia Jeep Club came to be and how we operate today.
Fed up with the usual politics of offroad ‘clubs,’ we decided to try something new to B.C. Truthfully, we’re an “un-club.” The UnClub was a concept brought to Canada by the RightCoastCrawlers of Nova Scotia. We’ve taken a back-to-basics approach to organized Jeeping. We have no president, no board of directors, no constitution and no treasury. The reality of fun in offroad sport is this; you don’t need anything more than a vehicle, a love of the sport and a few good friends. The following are the only ‘rules’ we live by;
We are non-profit. We do not accept any money from our members for any reason. Since we don’t have any expenses to cover, there are no dues to pay and there never will be.
This group will be kept informal. No one here is ‘in charge’. The principles listed on this page are guidance enough to keep our people happy.
So you may be asking ‘who makes the decisions?’ Well, nobody makes the decisions. There aren’t any decisions to make. We’ve found that without collecting money and electing wannabe politicians, there haven’t been any decisions to make other than which trail to run and when to show up. These things can be decided upon without a governing body.
We are all adults and shall conduct ourselves accordingly.
By this we mean that you are responsible for your own good time or lack thereof. We do believe in a ‘tread lightly’ philosophy and expect our people to work together on preserving trails and keeping a light footprint on the environment. Beyond that, we’re not preaching. Where your tires tread and the consequences you face are your problem and yours alone.
This is not a democracy.
There will be no politicking, no campaigning, no elections and no changes to our principles. If you do not like who we are or what we do, go elsewhere. We won’t feel threatened or offended and we certainly won’t insult you for your choice. This is a politics-free zone and we aim to keep it that way. That means zero-tolerance.
